Labradorite is a rare kind of feldspar, named due to the place that it was found – Labrador, Canada. The mineral occurs in mafic (rich in magnesium and iron) igneous rocks. It can also be found in certain metamorphic rocks, usually the amphibolites (high grade metamorphic rocks).
This rock produces an iridescent effect known as labradorescence due the reflection of light off inclusions of magnetite.

Colour: Multicoloured, colourless, grey, usually has blue or green colouring
Lustre: Vitreous
Chemical Composition: CaAl₂Si₂O₈ or NaAlSi₃O₈ (or both)
