Tiger’s eye is a member of the quartz group. It is formed when silica replaces crocidolite (blue asbestos) via oxidation.

Its blue variant is known as Hawk’s eye, or, Falcon’s eye.

The rock, Tiger Iron, is a stone composed of tiger’s eye, red jasper, and haematite. It is mined primarily in South Africa and Western Australia.
