Gold

Gold is a precious metal commonly used for jewellery and coinage, and is often found in ores alongside other minerals. It also often forms an alloy with the element silver. This is called Electrum when there is more than 20% silver present.

Gold is also found in its native state as flakes or nuggets that have been eroded from rocks, ending up in alluvial deposits called placer deposits.

Gold is often found in ores containing quartz or pyrite.

Nowadays, gold is used not only for jewellery, but also for electrical connectors in computers and other devices, thread for embroidery, infrared protectors on satellites and astronauts helmet visors, medicine, and even food and drink.
