Copper is a metal that can be found in sulphur mixes, other oxidised forms and porphyry copper deposits. These porphyry deposits are formed when large masses of molten rock (magma) cool and solidify underground.
As the copper solidifies last, other crystals form first, leaving the remaining solution with richer amounts of copper.
When copper oxidises, it forms a green layer, or patina, that is designed to prevent further oxidation.
